چکیده

The early eighties saw the introduction of a new group of antibiotics known as the carbapenems, which exhibited broader spectrum of activity as compared to cephalosporins. These group of antibiotics were active against Gram negative bacilli including non-fermenters like Pseudomonas producing extended spectrum betalactamases (ESBLs) and AmpC betalactamases (Deshpande et al., 2004; Gladstone et al., 2005). However, reports of resistance to these antibiotics amongst non-fermenting Gram negative bacteria (NFGNB) particularly Pseudomonas aeruginosa have been published in the last decade. The strains of carbapenem resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa can cause serious outbreaks in immunocompromised and hospitalized patients especially those admitted to intensive care and acute care units (Gowda and Marie, 2014; Maltezou et al., 2013).

Prevalence of IMP and VIM Metallo-Beta-Lactamases in Pseudomonas aeruginosa Isolates from Clinical and Environmental Specimens in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) of Rasht Hospitals, Iran

Introduction: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is one of the leading causes of nosocomial infections, and antibiotic resistance of this pathogen is an important concern in treating such infections. The current work was conducted to investigate the prevalence of bla-IMP, and bla-VIM metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) among clinical and environmental P. aeruginosa isolates obtained from ICUs of different hospita...

Imipenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains carry vim-type metallo-beta-lactamases isolated from intensive care unit, Shahid Beheshti Hospital, North of Iran

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the causing agent of many hospital infections and metallo-beta-lactamases (MBL) are being reported with increasing frequency. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of metallo-&beta-lactamases (MBL) and VIM-1 gene in multidrug-resistant strains of P. aeruginosa isolates and to compare the methods of phenotypic and molecular detection. Materia...

Prevalence of Clinically Isolated Metallo-beta-lactamase-producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Coding Genes, and Possible Risk Factors in Iran

Background & Objective: The spread of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a global concern. Metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL) enzymes cause extensive drug resistance among Gram-negative bacteria. The current study aimed at determining the prevalence of MBL-producing P. aeruginosa in Iran. Methods<...

Background: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a gram-negative bacillus that an opportunistic pathogen in patients with immune system disorder is known. One of the common causes of nosocomial infections is considered. Organisms oxidase positive, catalase positive, animated, and aerobic and lacks the ability to ferment carbohydrates. Background and Objective: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic nosocomial pathogen. Evidence suggests that the incidence of enzyme-producing strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa Metalo Beta Lactamases (MBL) is a major problem in the treatment of infections caused by this organism. The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of class I and II integrons among metalobetalactamase pro...
